  Triumph GT6 Ezine Restoration - Peter Allott's Spit 6 - Revisited
Author: Peter Allot  Editor: Todd Wilson

Peter's Spitsix was originally featured in Issue 2. He's sent me along some further progress shots, so here they are with some words from him.

I'm still working away on the Triumph when I get a chance. Unfortunately when the temperature drops too much below freezing my little garage heater can't keep up so I have just been doing part rebuilds in the basement.

So, here are some more shots I have taken over the course of this thing.

I have just painted the firewall and deck as well as the rocker panels and rear wheel wells that had to be rebuilt. I started on the frame in the front end and have stripped it and primed it ready for painting. I mixed both a high gloss and flat rust paint together to get a satin like finish I wanted. Obviously I have replaced the front suspension and brake lines. I brushed all the tie rod ends and ball joint mounts and sprayed them with clear coat to retain the steel look. This is headed toward being a show car more than just a restoration.

Starting to put the hydraulics back on the deck. These were all refinished and new seals put in. Here I have sort of moved on to another challenge. I have removed the dash and getting ready to trouble shoot the wiring as well as refinish the dash. I put a rebuild kit in the clutch master cylinder because it was leaking when I got the car. You will see later that I paid for not doing the same to the brake master cylinder. :(

Here is the refinished wiper motor. I used alot of Flitz to clean the metal parts, that's for sure. The passenger and drivers side rear wells that I rebuilt. Got an excellent colour match from the body shop in town. The paint seem is actually were the wheel well starts out from the door. I also had to do the bottom of the rocker panels to clean them up as well. The new dash is done in burled walnut with about 12 coats of marine laquer. I actually had to do it twice. I used the wrong glue the first time and the veneer bubbled on me. Live and learn I guess.

I finally found a floor pan and replaced the rotted out floor under the pedals, so the floor is completely rebuilt and primed. Now the engine. What a mess. The compression test was low on all cylinders. When I wet the cylinders with oil they all came up to spec. At least new rings needed.

I started stripping it as I decided to rebuild the whole thing. I'm going to put new bearings in both the crank and the cam and get the cam reground into a roadfast cam. I'll send more soon.
We'll leave Peter there, and hopefully catch up with him later.
